What is Leverage in crypto?

Borrowed capital that multiplies both the potential gains and losses of a position.

Definition

Leverage lets a trader control a position larger than their own capital. 10× leverage means a $1,000 margin controls a $10,000 position.

How it works

Leverage amplifies results in both directions: a 5% move on 10× leverage is a 50% gain or loss on your margin. Higher leverage means a smaller adverse move is enough to liquidate you. Professional traders size leverage to survive volatility, not to maximise it.
