Definition
The order book is the real-time ledger of all open limit orders for a market: bids (buyers) on one side, asks (sellers) on the other.
How it works
The gap between the best bid and best ask is the spread. Large resting orders — walls — can act as short-term support or resistance. Reading the book shows where liquidity sits and how hard price would be to push through a level.
